Ease into it! Slowly increase your stamina and time at the gym. Be sure to take time to stretch before and after your workouts. Tendon sprains and strains and stress fractures can result if you don’t.

Proper footwear! You’ll hear us tell you over and over again. Shoes that fit properly and are made for your workout are essential. Tight fitting shoes as well as shoes that lack cushion or arch support can quickly cause problems. Avoid blisters with well-fitting shoes and moisture wicking socks.

Keep fungus, bacteria and viruses out! These things can be found all over the gym, from your own gym bag to the exercise equipment, changing room, and floor. Be sure to keep any cuts or cracks covered up and never go barefoot in public areas. If swimming is in your plans be sure to wear water shoes or other water safe footwear around the pool.
